Are you after information about Sentricon termite bait used to control termites and other insect pests? Ridding a property of termites, ants, and other common pests is easier said than done, with many over-the-counter products treating only the visible parts of the infestation. Unfortunately, superficial treatments mean that the termite or ant colony continues to grow and expand, with the infestation able to continue unabated.
Professional pest control agencies are licensed to use a variety of high-grade pest control products in their efforts to deal with ant and termite infestations. These products are designed to be wide-reaching and hard-hitting, and can be effective in dealing with the most challenging of infestations. One common product in the pest controller’s arsenal is Sentricon. This product comprises two key components: the Above-Ground Termite Bait and the In-Ground Termite Bait. Together, these products are designed to deal with termite populations that have made their home within a structure, or within areas such as soil or trees.
The product is designed to be simultaneously palatable and toxic to ants and termites. This means that pests are attracted to the product, and are inclined to ingest it. However, ants or termites that ingest the product become affected by its toxic component. When they return to the colony, they contaminate other ants or termites, spreading the product throughout the colony. Over time the entire colony may be destroyed.
How much bait is required is dependent on the size of the colony
A very large colony will typically take longer to destroy, and will require more bait. New colonies become susceptible to the product much more quickly. Usually the process takes around six months in total, but because the product is so effective in destroying the entire ant or termite colony, the application is usually a one-off. A professional pest controller will monitor the colony throughout the process to ensure that the Sentricon application process has been effective.
In addition to its effectiveness, there are a number of other reasons why this product is so popular. First, it’s easy to apply, with the application process typically quick and easy, and mess-free. It’s also eco-friendly, and is low-risk to both humans and animals, making it a good choice for households with children or pets. It’s also low-risk to the pest controller, who is able to avoid contact with the hazardous chemicals found in some other pest control products.

A1 Pest Control technicians will make sure that your Sentricon termite baits stations are installed in soil areas strategically in the main locations where foraging termites are likely to attempt to gain entry into your home or business. Always mindful of discreetly them so that they will blend into the environment.
Sentricon IG (in ground) termiticide rods are placed inside these green plastic tubes which termites actually prefer to eat rather than the timbers of your home. Most other termite baits have timber receptors, which are only a fancy name for small pieces of timber within, which need additional powdered termiticide added to them after they are attacked to start killing off termite colonies.
The key difference with Sentricon Always Active is that there is no need to wait until white ants start to feed on these timbers before adding powered product moistened with water to the stations – termites feed directly upon the rods.
The termites (or “white ants”) feed straight away on the termiticide and take it back to wherever their nest is located. They have no idea that this feed is about to end their colony’s survival.
Termites regularly shed their versions of our skin (cuticle), and this process is interrupted once they start eating the Sentricon Always Active termite baits. This will cause the inability to shed their skins (moult) resulting in the gradual death of the worker caste, and will ultimately lead to the death of the whole colony.
The queen can produce sometimes hundreds of eggs a day and over 1,000,000 eggs over her lifetime.
Scientists studying termite behaviour have discovered how to engineer Sentricon to kill both the queen and
her colony by ending the food chain needed for survival.
Proven Termite Protection
Sentricon has the power to eliminate multiple generations of timber destroying vermin and deliver to you the ultimate termite protection.
It is a deadly bullet to termites, but much safer to you, the environment, your family and pets.
Sentricon has a world wide reputation for creating a low toxic alternative to chemical barriers such as Termidor.
It leads it’s competition as the best value for money and effective baiting & monitoring system for decades now and have an unbeaten reputation for seamless installation and maintenance.
Do your own research by typing into Google: “Chemical barriers” or “Termidor” Vs Sentricon.
Each of one of these options has it’s own advantages & disadvantages. It really depends on the circumstances of the infestation or area to be protected and the environment.
Chemical Barriers:
These come in two main varieties – a repelling barrier which, as the name suggests, repels termites and prevents them from breaching the barrier and getting into your home. The second type of barrier is a non-repellent barrier that is impregnated with a termiticide which is carried back to the termite nest and results in termite colony control.
The main issue with a liquid chemical barrier is the fact that it can be disturbed or unsettled by the likes of a dog digging near the barrier or adding new garden beds etc. that breach the barrier perimeter.
Bait / Termite Monitoring Stations:
Sentricon Always Active Termite Bait Components
Bait stations might appeal to clients that are more environmentally conscious (as no chemicals are injected into the soil) or homeowners that might be nervous about having a chemical barrier installed in a home with children and pets.
When properly installed the baiting system is not invasive and can eliminate a termite colony. The old way that we installed termite bait stations was like this:
Now we install them with a new tool that saves our backs and has a lot neater look to it using a powerful De WALT drill and Power Planter auger. This enables us to dig into even areas that have heavy clay soil.
With conventional bait stations the baiting system is installed around the home at regular intervals (usually less than 4m apart), filled with a timber rod (usually Tasmanian Oak or Radiata Pine which appeals to termites) and then inserted into the soil.
These baits require frequent monitoring, quarterly or monthly in high risk areas, and only after live termites or termite working has been sighted in the station does one add the bait matrix – which contains the termiticide.
This means that when termite bait systems go neglected, which we’ve come across many times, the timber inside is chewed up or rotted away and there’s no means of achieving termite colony control because the bait matrix was not added at the appropriate time.
The new Sentricon Always Active solves the problem of having to regularly maintain and inspect their baiting system – they’ve infused a rod with their Termiticide creating the Sentricon IG Termiticide Rodâ„¢.
This means that you can install the initial termite bait system and not have to worry about frequent inspections as the bait station already contains the necessary pesticide to promote termite colony control.
So white ants get to chew on the active ingredient in the first instance, rather than just nibbling on timber. This what it looks like when they are attacked:
White ants (termites) chewing on the waxy rod.
Sentricon has accomplished this by designing an active termiticide that doesn’t break down or become ineffective for a period of over FIVE YEARS! They’ve also managed to design the bait in such a way that it remains attractive to foraging termites for the same period of time.
The whole team at A1 Pest Control is excited about this new innovation from Sentricon and is already employing it very successfully in termite baiting systems since late 2016.

Label Information
The Ready to Install (RTI) station has 5 grammes per kilogramme of Hexaflumuron as the active constituent which is a rod containing an insect growth regulator for the control of white ants. See Label below:
It is produced and maintained by the Australian Building Code Board, the CodeMark list provides assurance to builders that the product certified meets the requirements of the building code of Australia (BCA)
Dow AgroSciences Pest Management Business Manager, Mrs Joanne George said “Sentricon IG termiticide Rods were registered in Australia in June last year.”
This registration allowed Professional Pest Managers to install or upgrade existing systems to this revolutionary new product.
With CodeMark accreditation it now allows owners of newly built buildings to also have the benefits of “Always Active”
As all mainland areas are prone to termite damage, new constructions in Australia must comply with specific requirements for termite management.
To date, this often takes the form of a physical barrier (termite meshes and caps) and a chemical barrier.
Chemical barriers require trenches around the structure filled with hundreds of litres of termiticide that may be breached with any structural additions, landscaping or even a dog! Sentricon Always Active is designed to replace this chemical barrier.
Sentricon AlwaysActive is a system of stations installed discreetly into the soil around the perimeter of a structure with Sentricon IG Termiticide Rods installed in each station.
Termites find the rods and carry the active ingredient back to the colony, where elimination begins.
The active ingredient affects moulting which termites go through regularly, so when affected termites reach this development stage, they die. As their death is not associated with the Sentricon Station, the colony continues to feed on the rod.
See how ants affect the baits in this short video:
Ant Control Information about Sentricon Stations
Other non target pest have been documented. See Gulmahamad 1998 and Scharf 2002. Most of these pests are not predators of termites and just use the stations for living areas.
Ants are natural enemies of termites, so what should you do when you find them?
White ants aka termites are predators of each other, and they can spend decades raging battles against each other.
There is a concern however, of the ants gaining an upper hand and interfering with the success of the system.
DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE SPRAY INSECTICIDES IN ORDER TO KILL THE INVADING ANTS!
Cleaning out the station may disturb the ants so that they leave the area. If they are persistent, we recommend that a thorough inspect be made of the area and a gel or granular ant bait be applied to the ant trails to gain control of the situation. Re-location may also be required.

As the active ingredient is so specific, Sentricon IG Termiticide Rods pose no risk to uses or the environment. It is also competitively affordable, both to install and maintain.
Australian Environmental Pest Managers Association President, Mr Vasil Tsoutouras, has beem involved in the in-field testing of Sentricon Always Active over the past few years.
From his lifetime of experience in this industry he said that Sentricon Always Active “…is going to be a great product, consumers are going to love it, it’s exactly what they think a termite baiting system should be now”.
