GERMAN COCKROACH

Blattella germanica (Fabricius)

[Blattodea: Blattellidae]

germroach

Adult: German cockroaches are approximately 10-15 mm long. Their elongate body is pale amber-brown with two longitudinal dark stripes on the pronotum. Nymphs resemble the adult cockroach but lack wings.

Head: The head is concealed beneath a large shield-like pronotum. Antennae are long (often longer than the body) and thread-like. Compound eyes are large in relation to head size and kidney-shaped. The mouthparts consist of mandibles for chewing with 5-segmented maxillary palps and 3-segmented labial palps.

Thorax: Cockroaches have two pairs of wings. The forewings are leathery and protect the hindwings. The hindwings are membranous, fan-shaped and fold flat over the body when at rest. Legs are strongly spined and designed for running.

Abdomen: The abdomen has a pair of multi-segmented cerci at the base. Cerci are used as tactile receptors.

Reproduction & Life-cycle:Adults live 4-6 months. An adult female cockroach will lay 5-8 oothecae in that period. The oothecae contain 30-40 eggs. Oothecae are carried during embryonic development and are released just before eclosion. Nymphs hatch from the ootheca and undergo 6-7 moults before reaching the adult stage.

Distribution:The German cockroach is a cosmopolitan urban pest.

Pest Status:German cockroaches are probably the most common cockroaches encountered. The species is commonly found in kitchens, pantries and storerooms, and prefers the warmth and moisture of food preparation areas. Nymphs and adults occupy the same habitat and feed on most organic matter but thrive on human foods.

Arguably one of the most hated pest species, the cockroach, is often seen as a daunting task to get rid of but to Bruce Gow and the team at A1 Pest Control the task of exterminating roaches is “Easily done when you know what you’re doing.” – Bruce

We were hired for a recent treatment for German Cockroach in Mt Druitt. German cockroaches can be really pesky insects since they reproduce twice as fast as other cockroaches.

This is a video on how we effectively control German Cockroaches

When we got there we quickly noticed that the infestation was serious. When we see German cockroaches roaming around in the daytime, we know right then that there are no more hiding spots for them. Fortunately for our client, we are experienced at handling German cockroaches.

We use 6 effective strategies when exterminating German Cockroaches.

  1. We perform a thorough inspection to find the German Cockroaches.
  2. We use cockroach dust to empty out their hiding spots.
  3. We treat infested areas as well as the rest of the property with Seclira insecticide.
  4. We lay Max Force Cockroach gel at common hiding spots.
  5. We place 2 cockroach sticky traps that contain a pheromone tablet to attract them to the trap.
  6. We place 2 cockroach bombs to help exterminate any infested rooms.
